As befitting a town that was the capital of Upper Canada from 1792-1796 and was the centre of efforts to expand United States power into the fledgling province during the War of 1812-14, Niagara-on-the-Lake is blessed with several museums and historic sites. The flagship museum is the Niagara Historical Museum that has been located in Niagara-on-the-Lake since 1906.
